The National Jazz Writing Competition began in 2005 as an Australian competition for reviews of recordings and live performances of jazz and improvised music. It’s still Australian, but the competition has changed a little. Starting in 2008, the competition invites entries in a different genre each year.
In 2008 we celebrated the short story and our winners (Peter Newall, Matthew Asprey and Spike Mason) gave us three delicious pieces of fiction that then made their way into extempore. 2009 was the year of the essay for us. Our prize winners were published in Issues 2 and 3 of extempore. In 2010 we’re supported by the Copyright Agency Limited (CAL)’s Cultrual Fund and we’re inviting entries of poetry.
Guidelines will be posted on the website on 19 April.
